We present here a calculation of the configuration averaged opticalconductivity of random binary alloys CuAu and AgAu. Our formulation is based onthe augmented space formalism proposed by Mookerjee [J. Phys. C : Solid StatePhys. {\bf 6} 1340 (1973)] and the optical conductivity is obtained directlythrough a recursive procedure suggested by Viswanath and M\"uller ["The userfriendly recursion method", Troisieme Cycle de la Physique, en Suisse Romande(1993)].
